Dr. Raja Akhtar BMedSci, BDS, MFDS RCSEd, MSc (Periodontology)

Dr. Raja Akhtar is a highly qualified and dedicated dental professional with a dual background in Orthoptics and Dentistry. He completed his degree in Orthoptics at the University of Sheffield in 2009 before pursuing his passion for dentistry, earning his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in 2013 from Peninsula Dental School. His time at Peninsula provided him with extensive clinical experience treating a diverse range of patients across Devon and Cornwall—an opportunity that not only strengthened his expertise but also allowed him to appreciate the region's stunning landscapes.

Originally from Peterborough, Dr. Akhtar continues to reside in his hometown while currently practicing in Oadby, where he provides high-quality dental care. His experience extends beyond general dentistry, having worked in the Community Dental Service, where he managed patients with severe pain and dental anxiety. Additionally, he trained in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Addenbrooke's Hospital, where he contributed to the care of patients with head and neck cancer, facial trauma, and cleft lip and palate conditions.

Driven by a keen interest in Periodontology, Dr. Akhtar pursued and successfully completed his Master's degree in Periodontology at the University of Essex in 2024. His advanced training has deepened his expertise in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gum disease, allowing him to offer specialised periodontal care to his patients. He remains a strong advocate for preventive and minimally invasive dentistry, ensuring his patients actively participate in their oral health journey through education and shared responsibility.

Dedicated to continuous professional development, Dr. Akhtar is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and regularly attends national and online courses to stay at the forefront of modern dentistry. He remains committed to expanding his knowledge and skills, particularly in the field of Periodontology.

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Akhtar enjoys spending time with family and friends. A passionate football enthusiast, he is a devoted Liverpool FC supporter and enjoys playing 5-a-side football—often attempting to replicate the skills of his favourite players on the pitch.

Dr. Gavin Looi BDS, BSc

Dr. Looi qualified in 1999 from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. After working 3 years in general practice, he moved to England with his family. He continued his dental career in general practice. In 2007 he joined the Oadby Dental Clinic. He loves the variety of challenges that he sees each day in general practice. His main goal in dentistry is to make the dental experience enjoyable with as little discomfort as possible. When not at work, he enjoys spending time with his family, cycling and model building.

Dr Christelle Kee BDS, MFDS RCPS Glasg

Dr Christelle Kee saw how passionate her father was about his work, and decided to follow in his footsteps. She graduated from Sheffield University in 2018, and worked in general practice in London for a year. After that, she worked for another year at the Royal London Dental Hospital in London. Her experience in both general practice and hospital practice will serve her well in her career. She took further exams and got her Diploma of Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (MFDS RCPS Glasg) in 2019. During her time in London, she also won the Best Evidence Based Dentistry Project 2018/19 awarded by the London, Kent, Surrey & Sussex Dental Foundation.

Her main interest is endodontics ( root canal treatment ). She especially enjoys building relationships with patients, particularly those who experience dental phobias and considers it a privilege to be entrusted with their care. She strives for excellence in all of her endeavors. Her goal is to create a great experience and level of comfort for patients while improving their dental health. The ultimate compliment is seeing a confident smile on the face of a patient. She firmly believes in continuous professional development through training and courses. Dentistry is evolving all the time with research and technology. ‘Nothing but the best will do for my patients’, she says.

When Dr Christelle is not working, she likes to keep herself fit by going to the gym. She enjoys socialising with her friends, and makes a wonderful carrot cake

Dr Sara Virdee BDS

Dr Sara Virdee graduated from the University of Birmingham with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery before returning to Leicester. She enjoys the varied nature of patients and takes care of patients within all age groups. She is currently working towards achieving a Diploma in Aesthetic, Restorative and Endodontic dentistry.

Sara understands that nervous patients may be apprehensive about receiving treatment: she takes pride in creating a calm and relaxed environment to ensure that appointments are made a comfortable experience for all patients and their families. She constantly strives for clinical excellence, always aiming to provide the highest quality of patient care.

Outside of dentistry, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, painting, baking, and going to the gym.

Kanako started working as a dental nurse at Oadby Dental Clinic in 2011. She began studying for her diploma in dental nursing with Leicester College and qualified in 2013. In 2018, she further qualified in Oral Health education, which enables her to provide oral health advice and teach patients how to look after their teeth, gums and mouth.
